4TH  NATIONAL  GROUND WATER CONGRESS AND INDIA WATER WEEK 2012

The Ministry of Water Resources, organized India Water Week  2012 on 10th April, 2012  at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. National Water Award-2010 was given away by Shri Pawan Kumar Bansal, Hon’ble Minister of Water Resources & Parliamentary Affairs and Shri Sharad Panwar, Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture to M.S.Swaminathan Research Foundation(NGO), Phulabad, Jeypore, District Korapat, Odisha, on the inaugural function of India Water Week 2012.

Dr.S.C.Dhiman, Chairman, CGWB, chaired  one of the technical sessions (held on 11.04.2012-Theme Ground Water Management) of week long India Water Week 2012 (10.04.2012 – 13.04.2012) celebrations held in Vigyan Bhawan, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi organized by NWDA, Ministry of Water Resources. Technical papers on the theme of Ground Water Management were presented by various scientists of CGWB apart from attending & participating the various technical sessions deliberations. 

Ground Water Augmentation Awards-2010 were given away by Shri Pawan Kumar Bansal, Hon’ble Minister of Water Resources & Parliamentary Affairs on the Valedictory function of India Water Week-2012 on 12.04.2012 in India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. Twelve  Ground Water Augmentation  Awards were given to NGO’s, Local Body, Gram Panchayats, Corporate Sector, FPARP and Individual etc. On this occasion, a “Compendium of Profiles of National Water Awardees and Ground Water Augmentation Awardees” was also released by Hon,ble, Minister of Water Resources and Parliamentary Affairs, Minister of State(WR). Hon’ble Ministers addressed the au gust gathering. Secretary & Add. Secretary(WR)  made addresses. Chairman, CGWB delivered subject note address.  

4th National Ground Water Congress was organized on 13.04.2012  in Vigyan Bhawan Annexe, Hall D, New Delhi. Theme of congress was Food and Securtiy with sub-themes of Water Use Efficiency & Conjunctive Use of Surface & Ground Water, Ground Water Development and Regulation, Participatory Initiatives for Ground Water Management. Shri Vincent H. Pala, Hon’ble Minister of State, Water Resources  delivered key note address on the inaugural function of Congress. Welcome address was given by Shri D.V.Singh, Secretary,  MoWR. Additional Secretary and Joint Secretary, MoWR graced the occasion.  Dr.S.C.Dhiman, Chairman, CGWB gave vote of thanks. Volume of Congress was released by Hon’ble Minister of State, Water Resources. Technical papers on said themes were presented by scientists from various departments viz. CGWB, Jawahar Lal Nehru University, IARI , NIH,G.B.Pant University of Agriculture and Technology Uttarakhand. Various awardees presented papers on the theme of Participatory Initiatives for Ground Water Management.     More than 400 representatives from various Central/State Govt. organizations, NGO’s/academic institutions participated in the congress.

 

EFC of Ground Water Management and Regulation and Rajiv Gandhi National Ground Water Training & Research Institute Schemes submitted to MOWR.

 

Central Ground Water Board  submitted EFC  of on-going Central Sector Scheme  i.e. Ground Water Management and Regulation Scheme for 12th Plan (2012-17)  to  the Ministry during the month of April, 2012 for approval and implementation. The EFC of Rajiv Gandhi National Ground Water Training & Research Institute component of HRD scheme has also been submitted to MoWR.

 

Visits of Hon’ble Minister of Water Resources at Tamilnadu.

Hon’ble Minister of Water Resources  Shri. Pawan Kumar Bansal during their visit to Tirupathi   on 05.04.12 held discussions with Shri  D. S. C. Thambi, Regional Director,   Central Ground Water Board, South East Coastal Region, Chennai  about the activities of Central Ground Water Board, South East Coastal Region South East Coastal Region.

Rolling Trophy for the Best Performing Region in the State Level Painting Competitions

Shri. D. S. C. Thambi, Regional Director, Central Ground Water Board, South East Coastal Region, Chennai  received the Rolling Trophy for the Best Performing Region in the State Level Painting Competitions conducted by Ministry of Water Resources from Hon’ble Minister of Water Resources Shri. Pawan Kumar Bansal in presence of Hon’ble Minister of State for Water Resources Shri. Vincent H. Pala during the India Water Week Celebrations held at New Delhi on 12.04.2012. This region is retaining this rolling trophy since the inception of painting competition.

Highlights of March, 2012

 

High Yielding Aquifers Explored:

Board has explored high yielding aquifers in the state of Chhattisgarh, Karnataka and  Kerala States under its scientific exploratory drilling programme, based on Hydrogeological studies and utilizing remote sensing and geophysical techniques:-

 

Chhattisgarh

  • An exploratory   well  drilled  at Baloda  block   of Raipur District down to  a depth of 152.0m bgl has yielded high discharge of 300 liter per minute in Cavernous limestone formation. This  well can cater to drinking water requirements of a population  of about 3000 (@ 60 lpcd for ten hours of pumping a day) in the area.

 

Karnataka

  • An exploratory well drilled at Erasavadi EW at Chamarajanagar taluk at Chamarajanagar district has yielded a high discharge of 720  LPM . This is one of the water scarcity village of the district.  The total depth drilled was 101.65 m bgl with a casing of 22.00 m and swl of 3.65 m bgl.  This  well can cater to drinking water requirements of a population  of about 7200 (@ 60 lpcd for ten hours of pumping a day) in the area.

 

Kerala

  • An exploratory   well  drilled  at Sanskrit University, Kalady, Ernakulam district down to a depth of 101.00 m bgl,  fracture encountered in the depth range     63-64m  has yielded high discharge of 540 LPM in Charnockite   formation. This  well can cater to drinking water requirements of a population  of about 5400 (@ 60 lpcd for ten hours of pumping a day) in the area.
  • An exploratory   well  drilled  at Kondadu, Kottayam district down to a depth of 118.00 m bgl,  fracture encountered in the depth range     116-118m has yielded high discharge of 720 LPM in Charnockite formation. This  well can cater to drinking water requirements of a population  of about 7200 (@ 60 lpcd for ten hours of pumping a day) in the area.

 

Rajiv Gandhi National Ground  Water Training & Research Institute:

 

The following training courses have been conducted at RGNGWTRI, Raipur during March 2012 as detailed below:-

  • A one week training course on Procurement of Services was successfully completed on March 02, 2012 (Feb 27 – March 02, 2012)   at Central Ground Water Board,  RGI, Raipur.  15 trainees  of  CGWB   have  attended  the training course.
  • A one week  training course on Implementation of e-Governance & IT plan in CGWB was successfully completed on 16th March, 2012 (March 12-16, 2012) at Central Ground Water Board, RGI,  Raipur. 13 officers of  CGWB   have  attended  the training course.
  • A one week  training course on Communication Skills and Preparation of Project Proposal was successfully completed on      23rd March, 2012 (March 19-23, 2012) at Central Ground Water Board, RGI,  Raipur.    16 participants  from CGWB  have  attended  the training course.

 

Organized Mass Awareness and Training Programme on “RTRWH & Water Conservation” under IEC activities

 

  • The Mass Awareness Programme on “Water Conservation and Rain Water Harvesting” was conducted at Zila Panchayat, Dudhani, Silvassa, UT of Dadra & Nagar Haveli  on 14th  March, 2012. Shri Shankarbhai Waghmare, President, Silvassa Zila Panchayat was the Chief Guest of the function and Shri Jitu Bhai Madha was the guest of honour. Shri Pradeep Dube, Regional Director, Central Ground Water Board, Central Region, Nagpur chaired the function. The inauguration was followed by the release of a Ground Water Information booklet prepared by State Unit Office, Pune for UT of D&NH in local Marathi language by the dignitaries.  Dr. P.K. Jain, Scientist D of CGWB presented the popular lecture on “Rain Water Harvesting and Artificial Recharge”. The programme was attended by Farmers, Sarpanch, Talathi, Panchayat level workers, State Govt. Officials, Non-Government Organizations working in water sector with gathering of nearly 175 people.
  • The Mass Awareness Programme on “Water Conservation and Rain Water Harvesting” was conducted at Wapa Nursery, Shahapur, Thane district on 16th March, 2012. Shri Subhash Hivlekar, IFS, Deputy Conservator of Forest, Shahapur was the  Chief Guest of the function and Shri Suresh Khandale, Additional Director, GSDA  was the guest of honour.            Shri Pradeep Dube, Regional Director, Central Ground Water Board, Central Region, Nagpur chaired the function.              Shri R.K. Pole, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forest also attended this programme. The inauguration  was followed by the release of a Ground Water Information booklet prepared by State Unit Office, Pune for Thane district in local Marathi language by the dignitaries.  Dr. P.K. Jain, Scientist D of CGWB presented the popular lecture on “Rain Water Harvesting and Artificial Recharge”. The programme was attended by Farmers, Sarpanch, Talathi, Panchayat level workers, State Govt. Officials, Non-Government Organizations working in water sector with gathering of nearly 125 people.
  • Mass awareness programme was organized by Central Ground Water Board, Western Region, Jaipur at Merta city, Nagaur  on 23.03.2012. About 475delegates including Academicians, NYKS Volunteers, Social Activists, farmers, students and local people of Merta city attended the programme. Printed technical materials related to ground water issues distributed among delegates.
  • Water Management Training Programme under IEC activity was organized  by Central Ground Water Board, Western Region, Jaipur on 29.02.2012 in the premises of Parle School, Neemrana in association with CII, Neemrana.   More than 300 trainees attended the said training programme from various deptt/ NGO, university/PHED.
  • Water Management Training Programme under IEC activity was organized by Central Ground Water Board, Western Region, Jaipur on 13.03.2012 in Ranbanka Resort Hotel, Bhilwara.   Training was imparted to 45 trainees from different govt. organizations, NGO’s, PRI, viz. Public Health Engineering Department Ground Water Department, Irrigation,  Agriculture, UIT, Nagar Parishad, Zila Parishad, State Pollution Control Board etc. along with Non – Government Organizations like PANIWALE, GIANTS, FES etc.
  • Central Ground Water Board, North Himalayan Region, Dharamshala organized successfully Water Management Training Programme on Rain Water Harvesting and Spring Water Recharge” at B.Ed. College, Ponda, district Kinnaur on 19th March,2012.
  • Central Ground Water Board, North Himalayan Region, Dharamshala organized successfully Mass Awareness  Programme on Rain Water Harvesting and Spring Water Recharge” at Him Modern Public             Sr. School, Ponda,  district Kinnaur on 20th March,2012.
  • Central Ground Water Board, North Himalayan Region, Dharamshala organized successfully Mass Awareness  Programme on Rain Water Harvesting and Spring Water Recharge” at SD  Public  School, Reckong Peo,   district    Kinnaur on 22nd  March,2012.
  • Central Ground Water Board, North Central  Region, Bhopal was conducted a Water Management Training Programme (WMTP) in Tribal area at Zilla Panchayat conference hall, Khargone on 16-03-2012. The training was attended by 75 officers belonging to State Govt. as well as NGOs’.
  • Central Ground Water Board, North Central  Region, Bhopal was conducted a Mass Awareness Programme (MAP) in Tribal area at Janpad Panchayat, Bhikangaon distt. Khargone on     18-03-2012. Total 200 participants participated in the programme
  • Awareness Raising Training  Programmes under Hydrology Project

 

  • A one day “Awareness Raising Training programme”  was organized under HP-II  at Nagpur on 27th March,2012.             Dr. Archana Kadu, Deputy Director, Agriculture Department, Nagpur, graced the function as  Guest of Honour during  inaugural function, whereas in the valedictory function Dr. Uday Pati, District Superintending Agriculture Officer, Nagpur was the guest of honour.       The training programme was presided over by Shri Pradeep Dube,  Regional Director, CGWB, Nagpur.  During the training 4  lectures were presented on “Ground Water Survey, Monitoring and Assessment using GEMS”  by Shri Bhushan R. Lamsoge, Scientist C, CGWB, Nagpur, “Pilot Project on Micro Level Aquifer Mapping for Chandrabhaga (WGKKC-2) watershed-Aims, Objectives, Components and Requirements” by Shri S.D. Waghmare, Asstt. Hydrogeologist, CGWB, Nagpur, “Rain Water Harvesting and Artificial Recharge to Ground Water” by Dr. P.K. Jain, Scientist D and Coordinator and “Pilot Project on Micro Level Aquifer Mapping for Chandrabhaga (WGKKC-2) watershed – Proposed Deliverables and Outcome & Participatory Ground Water Management” by Shri Rahul R. Shinde, AHG, CGWB, Nagpur.  The  programme  was attended by the 20 trainees from Central / State Govt. organizations  like GSI, Agriculture Department, Irrigation Department, Zila Parishad,Panchayat Samiti etc.   They were provided with the training material and were also awarded the certificates of participation.
  • A one day “Awareness Training programme”  under Hydrology Project-Phase IIwasconducted on 29th  March 2012 at Bhopal, M.P. The Training Programme was chaired by the Engineer –in- chief,  Water Resources Department, Govt. of Madhya Pradesh. Total thirty seven officers of various central /State departments as well as NGO’s participated in the training Programme.
  • Visits of Chairman CGWB at Chandigarh and Madhya Pradesh

 

  • Dr.S.C.Dhiman, Chairman CGWB  visited  at Chandigarh  and  held meeting with Director, PGI, Chandigarh on 9th March, 2012  regarding Impact of the existing rainwater harvesting structures in the City.  The Chairman emphasized the need for taking up of R&D studies in collaboration with NITTR on economical design of the filter and rainwater harvesting structures and their effectiveness. The meeting was attended by Scientists of North Western Region, Chandigarh.
  • Dr.S.C.Dhiman, Chairman CGWB  held meeting with Director, NITTR, Chandigarh on 9th March, 2012 at NITTR, Chandigarh regarding Impact of Water Pollution on Food Chain.  The meeting was attended by Regional Director and Scientists from Central Ground Water Board, North Western Region, Chandigarh.

 

  • Dr.S.C.Dhiman, Chairman CGWB  chaired a State Level Meeting for finalization of Status Report on “Water Quality Issues and Challenges-Punjab” held at Bhujal Bhawan, Chandigarh on 10th March, 2012. The meeting was attended by Director, WRED, Punjab; Principal Coordination, Department of Health & Family Welfare, Punjab; Executive Engineer, Department of Water Supply & Sanitation, Punjab; Regional Director  and  Scientists from Central Ground Water Board, North Western Region, Chandigarh.
  • Dr.S.C.Dhiman, Chairman, and Sh. D.Saha, Regional Director, CGWB, MER, Patna, visited Ujjain, along with officers of CGWB, North Central Region, Bhopal on 17th to 18th march 2012. Chairman inspected Artificial Recharge work carried out by CGWB, North Central Region and also visited Heera Mill area in Ujjain Distt. Sh. D.Saha, collected samples for Isotope analysis.

 

World Water Day 2012  Celebrations

 

  • Central Ground Water Board, Kerala Region, Trivendrum organized an exhibition of posters, models and pamphlets highlighting the activities of CGWB in the premises of Infosys Technologies campus, Trivandrum on World Water Day, 2012.
  • Regional Director, CGWB, Kerala Region, Trivendrum  attended the World Water Day celebrations organized by Kerala Water Authority on the theme Water and Food Security. Regional Director, Dr Nandakumaran P also participated in a panel discussion on the Draft National Water Policy 2012.
  • World Water Day, 2012 Celebration were organized at           R.V. College of Engineering, Bangalore on 21.03.2012, Dayanand College, Bangalore  on 22.3.2012  and Dr Ambedkar Institute of Technology, Bangalore on 26.03.2012. Central Ground Water Board, SWR, Bangalore co-sponsored and         Dr. K.Md. Najeeb, Regional Director  addressed and chaired the technical session.
  • Regional Director, Central Ground Water Board, North Eastern Region attended the meeting   of “WORLD  WATER DAY-2012” on 22nd March, 2012 at Institution of Engineers ( India ) , Assam State Centre, Guwahati organized by Institution of Engineers ( India ).

National Science Day Celebrations

 

Scientists of Central Ground Water Board, State Unit Office, Pune  attended Prize distribution ceremony of SPM English School, Yamuna Nagar, Nigadi, Pune on the occasion of National Science Day on 2nd March, 2012. Superintending Hydrogeologist emphasized need for water conservation and recharge in his message to the children and school staff.

A scientific paper entitled “ Morphometric analysis of sub basin in and around Malur taluk, Kolar district, Karnataka using remote sensing and GIS technique” by Dr S. S. Vittala, K.Md. Najeeb et. al,. published in International Quarterly Scientific Journal -Nature Environment and Pollution Technology, Vol 11, No. 1.

 

Other Important Meetings

  •  Regional Director of Central Ground Water Board,  North Central Chhatisgarh Region, Raipur attended the 5th meeting of State Level Ground Water Resource Assessment Committee   on 22nd March, 2012  for finalization of Ground Water Availability in Chhattisgarh as on March, 2009.
  • Regional Director, Central Ground Water Board, Kerala Region, Trivendrum attended the  fifth meeting of the Ground Water Re estimation Committee was held on 9.3.2012   in the Chamber of Secretary, Water Resource Department, Government of Kerala to finalize the modalities for estimation of Dynamic Ground Water Resources of Kerala as on 31.3.2011.  Sri PJ Kurien IAS, Principal Secretary, WRD, GOK Chaired the meeting.
  • Regional Director, Central Ground Water Board, Kerala Region, Trivendrum visited the Ground Water Management study areas in Palakkad and Coimbatore districts during 14-16 March 2012 along with Regional Director, SECR, Chennai as part of the combined field inspection and review of progress of work.
  • RRR inspection has been carried out in Pargodu, Nallireddypalli MI tank in Chikkaballapur district on 19.3.2012.  Regional Director and Scientists of  Central Ground Water Board , South Western Region, Bangalore  carried out the RRR inspection.
  • Scientists of Central Ground Water Board, Western Region, Jaipur  attended meeting of District Level Advisory committee, Jhunjhunun  for notified  block in the chamber of District Collector on 15.03.2012  and 16.03.2012. The permission for new tube wells for drinking and domestic water discussed.
  • Regional Director  from Central Ground Water Board, North Western Region, Chandigarh  held a meeting with Senior Advocate of Legal Cell of Supreme Court  of India for Cases referring to land acquisitions.

 

 

 

 

 

Highlights of February, 2012

 

High Yielding Aquifers Explored:

Board has explored high yielding aquifers in the state of Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and  Kerala States under its scientific exploratory drilling programme, based on Hydrogeological studies and utilizing remote sensing and geophysical techniques:-

Gujarat

  • A  well  drilled  at in hard rock area of Danta block, Banaskantha  District  down to a depth of 92.90m bgl  has yielded high discharge of 900 LPM in Granite (fractured) and intrusive of pink granite and quartzite formation. This  well can cater to drinking water requirements of a population  of about 9000 (@ 60 lpcd for ten hours of pumping a day) in the area.

 

Chhattisgarh

  • A  piezometer  drilled  at Dondi-Lohara block of  Durg  District  has yielded high discharge of 240 liter per minute in the Cavernous limestone/shale formation.
  • An exploratory   well  drilled  at Kasdol block   of Raipur District  has yielded high discharge of 190 liter per minute in Cavernous limestone formation. This  well can cater to drinking water requirements of a population  of about 1900 (@ 60 lpcd for ten hours of pumping a day) in the area.
  • An observation well   drilled  at Kasdol block   of Raipur District  has yielded high discharge of 210 liter per minute in Cavernous limestone formation. This  well can cater to drinking water requirements of a population  of about 2100 (@ 60 lpcd for ten hours of pumping a day) in the area.

 

Rajasthan

  • An exploratory   well  has been constructed at Bujunda, District Chittorgarh. High discharge of 300 lpm has been measured during the preliminary yield test.  This  well can cater to drinking water requirements of a population  of about 3000 (@ 60 lpcd for ten hours of pumping a day) in the area.

 

Kerala

  • An exploratory   well  drilled  at Kondadu, Kottayam district down to a depth of 150.00 m bgl,  fracture encountered in the depth range     38- 149 m has yielded high discharge of 480 LPM in Charnockite   formation. This  well can cater to drinking water requirements of a population  of about 4800 (@ 60 lpcd for ten hours of pumping a day) in the area.
  • An exploratory   well  drilled  at Vazhachal, Thrissur district  down to a depth of 101.00 m bgl,  fracture encountered in the depth range     20- 43 m has yielded high discharge of 413 LPM in Granite gneiss    formation. This  well can cater to drinking water requirements of a population  of about 4100 (@ 60 lpcd for ten hours of pumping a day) in the area.

 

  • Rajiv Gandhi National Ground  Water Training & Research Institute:
 
 

The following training courses have been conducted at RGNGWTRI, Raipur during February 2012 as detailed below:-

  • A one week training course on Safety Measures during Water Well Drilling    was successfully completed on 3rd February  , 2012         (Jan 30 –  Feb, 2012)   at Central Ground Water Board,  RGI, Raipur.  23 trainees  (15 from CGWB, 8 from State Government) have  attended  the training course.
  • A one week  training course on Mathematical and Statistical Techniques for Ground Water Data Analysis was successfully completed on 10th February, 2012 (February 6 – 10, 2012) at Central Ground Water Board, RGI,  Raipur. 20 officers (9 from CGWB, 10 from State Government & 1 from Academic Institution) have  attended  the training course.
  • A one week  training course on Integrated Watershed Development & Management  was successfully completed on     17th February, 2012 (February 13 – 17, 2012) at Central Ground Water Board, RGI,  Raipur. 16 participants  (4 from CGWB, 12 from State Government) have  attended  the training course.
  • A one week  training course on Administrative Budget and Finance   was successfully completed on 25th  February, 2012 (February 21 – 25, 2012) at Central Ground Water Board, RGI,  Raipur.          17 participants  from Central Ground Water Board have  attended  the training course.

 

Organized Mass Awareness and Training Programme on “RTRWH & Water Conservation” under IEC activities
  • Successfully organised the Water Information Centre at Town Hall, Mahasamund district on dated 23-02-2012 under the Tribal Sub plan of IEC Scheme of the Ministry of Water Resources for spreading awareness through documentary films, literature, wall paintings, and souvenirs for visitors, etc. which was graced by the Chief guest Smt. Alarmel Mangai D., Collector, Mahasamund and Sh. H.R. Som, DEO, Mahasamund was the Guest of Honour on the occasssion. During the day-long event all arrangements were made and nearly 5000 children representing different schools of Mahasamund have participated in the event symbolizing an overwhelming response. The event has been widely covered both by the media and press and all have appreciated the essence of the initiative of the ministry of Water Resources.

  • Central Ground Water Board, Kerala Region, Trivendrum Organised Water Management Training Program at Vithura, Thiruvananthapuram  district, Kerala (Tribal area) on 8th & 9th February, 2012.
  • Central Ground Water Board, SECR, Chennai conducted Water Management Training (WMT) at Kallakurichi, Villupuram District on 15.02.12 and 16.02.12.  Shri. D. Mani, IFS, Dy. Conservator of Forests, Kallakurichi inaugurated the training programme.    About 43 trainees from various state government departments, universities and NGOs attended the WMT program.
  • Mass Awareness Program was conducted by SECR, Chennai at Kothagiri, Nilgiri District on 21.02.12.  Tmt. Archana Patnaik, I.A.S, District Collector of Nilgiri District was the chief guest.  The programme was attended by more than 300 persons majority of them are from tribal areas.
  • Water Management Training (WMT) Program was conducted by Central Ground Water Board, SECR, Chennai at Namakkal, Namakkal District on 23.02.12 and 24.02.12.  Shri. S. S. Kumar, Project Director, DRDA, Namakkal District inaugurated the training programme.    About 31 trainees from various state government departments, universities and NGOs attended the WMT program.
  • Central Ground Water Board, SECR, Chennai organized Mass Awareness Program at Harur, Dharmapuri district on 28.02.2012  under  assigned the target of IEC activities in tribal areas.
  • The Mass Awareness Programme on “Water Conservation and Rain Water Harvesting” was conducted at Mul, Mul taluka, Chandrapur district on 27th February, 2012. The programme was inaugurated by Ms. Sheetal Ugle, IAS, Sub-Divisional Officer (Revenue), Chandrapur. The inauguration was followed by the release of a Ground Water Information Booklet prepared by Central Region for Chandrapur district in local Marathi language by the dignitaries. The dignitaries on the dias included Shri Shivraj Padole, Tahsildar, Mul and Shri Sanjay Rainchwar, Naib Tahsildar, Mul. Dr. P.K. Jain, Scientist of Central Ground Water Board, Central Region, Nagpur presided over the function. The programme was attended by Farmers, Sarpanch, Talathi, Panchayat level workers, State Govt. Officials, Non-Government Organizations working in water sector and Students with gathering of nearly 250 people with about 50% of women participation.
  • The Mass Awareness Programme on “Water Conservation and Rain Water Harvesting” was conducted at Garhchiroli, Garhchiroli district (Tribal area) on 28th February 2012. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Vijay S. Aainchwar, Vice Chancellor, Gondwana University, Garhchiroli. The inauguration was followed by the release of a Ground Water Information booklet prepared by Central Region for Garhchiroli District in local Marathi language by the dignitaries. The dignitaries on the dais included Shri Sumant Bhange, IAS, CEO, Zilla Parishad, Garhchiroli and Shri Sanjay Dhiware, IAS, Collector (Incharge), Garhchiroli. Dr. P.K. Jain, Scientist-D and Head of Office, CGWB, CR, Nagpur presided over the function. The programme was attended by Farmers, Sarpanch, Talathi, Panchayat level workers, State Govt. Officials, Non-Government Organisations working in water sector Women Self Help Group’s and Students with gatherings of nearly 200 people with large number of women participation.

 

  • Training Programmes under Hydrology
  • Awareness raising training programme under HP-II was conducted on 2.2.2012 at Ponda Goa. Sri B.Vijayan IAS, Principal secretary, Water Resources, Govt.Of Goa was the Chief Guest and inaugurated the training programme by lighting the lamp along with other dignitaries. Sri S.T. Nadkarni CE, Water Resource department, Govt, of Goa and Prof. N.P. Singh, Director, ICAR, Goa were Guests of Honour. The training programme was presided over by Dr K.Md. Najeeb, Regional Director. 29 trainees from various departments like Water Resources Department, Goa university, Civil Engineering dept., Goa Engineering college, Department of Agriculture, ICAR, CWC attended the training programme. Scientists from CGWB, SWR Bangalore and State Unit office, Belgaum presented various topics on Water management.
  • Successfully organised the awareness raising Training Programme under Hydrology Project at Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh  on 27-02-2012.

 

Visit of Hon’ble Members of study team constituted by MoWR

Central Ground Water Board, Southern Region, Hyderabad organized the visit  Hon’ble Members of study team constituted by Ministry of Water Resources, Govt. of India to study the best practices in ground water management with participatory approach in the country from 22nd and 23rd February 2012 in Nalgonda district.

Shri. G. Mohan Kumar, IAS, Additional Secretary to Govt., Ministry of Water Resources, Government of India held discussions with the Regional Director and officers of Central Ground Water Board, South East Coastal Region, Chennai on Micro Level Aquifer mapping in Lower Vellar Micro Water Shed, Cuddalore district on 10.02.12 during his visit to Chennai to attend International Conference on Leading Organisational transformation for Effective Service delivery organized by MoDWS, MoUD, UNICEF. 

 

Visit of Chairman CGWB at Jaipur

 

Dr.S.C.Dhiman, Chairman CGWB  and  Sh.Sushil Gupta, Member (SML) visited Jaipur for Sixth meeting of the Indian Committee on Ground Water (INCGW) which was held at Central Ground water Board, Western Region,  and University of Rajasthan on 01.02.2012. Dr.S.C.Dhiman, Chairman CGWB  also reviewed the Progress of CGWB Western Region.

 

Participation in the science exhibition at Shimoga organised by Kuvempu University

 

Central  ground water Board, South Western Region, Bangalore  participated in the science exhibition at Shimoga from 16.2.2012 to 19.2.2012, which was organized by Kuvempu University.  Sri G.Krishnamurthy Sc-C participated as resource person and Sri P.Narahari Sr.surveyor assisted in exhibiting working models of rainwater harvesting and dugwell recharge and other display materials on water conservation.

    • Presentation and technical discussion to review the progress of on going projects held on 2.02.2012.  The presentation was attended  by  Dr.S.C.Dhiman, Chairman CGWB, Sh.Sushil Gupta, Member (SML) Smt. Anita Gupta, Dr.N.C.Ghose NIH, Shri B.B.Burman, Director, MOEF Dr.A.K.Sinha Professor, University of Rajasthan, Shri Sher Singh Director(R&D) MOWR, Shri.I.K.Sharma Sc D, Dr.Uma Kapoor Scientist.D.
    • State level committee meeting for Ground water resource assessment of Goa was held on 1.2.2012 at Panjim Goa, wherein assessment of Static ground water resources for Goa was reconciled and approved. Regional Director, Central Ground Water Board, South Western Region, Bangalore  attended the meeting. 
    • Scientist of Central Ground Water Board,  North Himalayan Region, Dharamshala attended a 3rd meeting of State Level Technical Coordination Committee (SLTCC) for implementation of Artifical Recharge Projects under Central Sector Scheme “Ground Water Management and Regulation” held on 10th February, 2012 under the Chairmanship of Principal Secretary (I&PH) to Govt. of Himachal Pradesh at Shimla. During the meeting eight scheme proposals were put up and five schemes were approved.   DPR’s of approved schemes were sent to Head Quarter.
    • Regional Director of Central Ground Water Board,  North Central Chhatisgarh Region, Raipur attended the meeting of State Level Scheme Sanctioning Committee on 1-02-2012 under the Chairmanship of Secretary, PHED, Govt. of Chhattisgarh organized by PHED. During the meeting, work plan of year 2011-12 under NRDWP was discussed.
    • Scientists of Central Ground Water Board, North Western Himalayan Region, Jammu attended SLTAC meeting on Artificial Recharge to ground water held on 08.02.2012 in the office chamber of the commissioner Secretary PHE &IFC, civil secretariat, Jammu on Artificial Recharge to ground water and Project proposals on Artificial Recharge to groundwater through checkdam approved by the committee.
    • Regional Director, Central Ground Water Board, Kerala Region, Trivendrum attended the 2nd meeting of the Expert Committee on 6.02.2012 at Ground Water Department, Jalavijnana Bhavan, Ambalamukku.
    • Scientist -`B’ Central Ground Water Board, SECR, Chennai  attended the second meeting of Committee on “Effective Utilization of North East Monsoon generated flood waters” convened by the Public Works Department, Water Resources Department, Govt. of Tamil Nadu at Chennai on 23.02.2012.
    • Scientist of Central Ground Water Board, South Western Region, Bangalore  attended 7th Review Committee Meeting for DSS (P) under HP-II on 2.02.2012 at Department of Mines and Geology, Govt.of Karnataka which was  organized by NIH, Roorke.
    • Regional Director and Scientist   of  Central Ground Water Board, South Western Region, Bangalore  had discussion with the authorities of University of Agricultural , Bijapur campus on 22.02.2012 in connection with approved scheme of demonstrative artificial recharge project.
    • Regional Director and Scientist   of  Central Ground Water Board, South Western Region, Bangalore     visited Sainik School, Bijapur on 23.02.2012 in response to their proposal of scheme on Rain water harvesting under demonstrative artificial recharge projects.
    • Scientists of Central Ground Water Board, Western Region, Jaipur attended meeting on 15.02.2012 of District Level Advisory committee, Sikar for notified  blocks in the chamber of District Collector. The permission for new tubewells for drinking and domestic water discussed.
    • Scientist of Central Ground Water Board, Western Region, Jaipur attended meeting  on 17.02.2012 of District Level Advisory committee, Alwar for notified  block in the chamber of District Collector. The permission for new tubewells for drinking and domestic water discussed.
    • Scientist of Central Ground Water Board, Western Region, Jaipur attended meeting  on 27.02.2012 of District Level Advisory committee, Ajmer for notified  areas of Pushkar valley  in the chamber of District Collector. The permission for new tubewells for drinking and domestic water discussed.
    • Regional Director, Central Ground Water Board, North Eastern Region, Guwahati attended the SLTCC meeting for the State of Mizoram was convened on 14.02.2012 at Aizwal  in the Chamber of Special Secretary, Public Health Engineering Department, Govt of Mizoram, Aizwal.  Chief Engineer, Public Health Engineering Department, Principal Scientific Officer        ( Planning Deptt ) Director, Agriculture, Soil and Water Conservation Deptt, Govt. of Mizoram  were present.   DPRs received from the Public Health Engineering Department were put up in the meeting.   The committee recommended and cleared   DPRs for total amount of Rs 2,00,00,000 /-( Rupees two crores  only) under tribal sub-plan.
