CENTRAL GROUND WATER BOARD

The Central ground water Board (CGWB) functions under the Ministry of water Resources, Governmnet of India. The Board is headed by Chairman and has four Members under whom 18 Regional Offices function in different State Capitals, headed by Regional Directors. Beside, there are 17 Divisional office and 11 State Unit Offices. It has a strength of more than 4000 personnel to fulfill its mandate.
Our Vision: Sustainable Development and Management of Ground Water Resources of the Country
Our Mission:
- To develop ground water policies, programmes and practices to monitor and enable effective use of the country’s ground water resources in a sustainable manner with active involvement of all stakeholders.
- To put into place scientific system and practices, which would result in sustained increase in ground water use efficiency.
- To disseminate information, skills and knowledge, which would help in capacity building and mass awareness in ground water sector.
Details of Business Transacted by the Board:
Central Ground Water board is the National apex organisation vested with responsibilities "to develop and disseminate technologies and monitor and implement National policies for the scientific and sustainable development and management of india's ground water resources, including thier exploration, assessment, consoervation, agumentation, protection from pollution and distribution based on principles of economic and efficiency and ecologcal equity."
Customers/ Clients of the Board:
The Board does not provide direct services to citizens or any private agency. However, the users benefitted from the Board activities are:
- Central and State Governmnet Organisations dealing with drinking water supply, environment and pollution control and planning commission, etc.
- Various Universities and rResearch Organisations of India and other countries.
- NGOs. which are engaged in ground water profession and water pollution studies, etc.
- Individual citizens engaged in ground water profession.
Details of Services provided to the Clients:
- Ground water development and management plans.
- Data generated from Ground water explorations under taken by the Board to delineate ground water worthy areas and potential aquifers.
- Periodic assessment of teh country's ground water resources including refinement and updating of methodlogy.
- Monitoring of Ground water levels and quantity through ground Water observation wells.
- Implementation of demonstrative artificial recharge and rain water harvesting projects to popularise area specific methodologies of ground water augmentation.
- Dissemination of Ground Water Data.
- Issuances of NOC to industries.
- Regulation and control of ground water development and management in coordnation with State Government Organisations.
- Water supply investigation for Government, semi goverment and defence agencies.
- Assessment of ground water quality for determining thier suitability for various types of uses including for agriculture, industrial and allied purposes.
- Coordination with State Governmnet with a view to establish benchmark methodologies for ground water studies.
- R & D studies in ground water sector and application and operationalisation of new technologies/ techniques for ground water investigation, development and management.
- Capacity building and knowledge transfer.
Grievances redressal mechanism:
Public and staff grivance redressal cells have been established in the Board for dealing with grienvances of the general public and staff members. ( Please Click for details of the Grienvances Officer)
Sexual Harrassment Committee:
A committee for dealing the cases against sexual harrassment has been constitutes under the chairmanship of Dr(SMT) Uma Kapoor, Scientit "D" with other four members tolook into the complaints of women employees working in the Board. Implementation of Right to Information Act-2005:
CGWB has designated Appellate Authority, CPIO, ACPIO at Boards's Headquarters office, Faridabad to provide the required information to the information seekers as per the provisions of teh RTI Act-2005. Board has designate PIO's at all Regional Offices.

Board involves NGO's water users groups and private public in the workshops/ seminars and mass awareness programmes under IEC activities. Advisory council of Artificial Recharge to Ground water Activity involves participation of Stae Govt., NGO's and other organisation and thier view and decisions are considered for policy planning.
Conclusion:
Effective improvements in service delivery is being created under "Sevottam" complaint system to implement, monitor and review citizen's charter of the Board.
