Over the last three decades CGWB, Raipur has gathered a huge amount of data regarding ground water resources of Chhattisgarh. Data of nearly 1000 exploratory wells distributed through out the state, historical data of water level and water quality variation for over 30 years, 800 geophysical soundings, high frequency water level data of more than four years are the main features of the database.

This is the first attempt to synthesise the entire set of data, analyse and interprete them and to present the findings in a format that appeals to the academicians, administrators and all the stakeholders in ground water.

The report embodies all the features of ground water and related aspects of the state including physiography, meteorological conditions, geology, hydrogeology, hydrochemistry, geophysics, ground water prolems etc.

The best thing about the report is that separate chapters have been compiled by different authors, who are experts in their respective fields. It was a Herculean job and required working beyond office hours for months. I appreciate the concerted efforts put by the authors to make it possible to bring the report in its present shape. It was a nice experience for me to be involved through out the process and coordinating the work.

Though utmost care has been taken to minimise the errors, some errors may have inadvertently crept in. It is expected that these mistakes will be taken in the proper spirit.
