Water level fluctuation between November 2002 and November 2003

  [Back] [Home]

Comparison of November 2003 with that of November 2002 indicates a more pronounced fall in water level in major parts of the State.  The fall in water level is in the range of 0 – 6 metres as recorded by 71.8 % NHS.  However fall in water level is restricted to 2 meters as recorded by majority of the stations.  Rise in water level is seen in the eastern parts of Kasaragod, Wayanad, western parts of Kozhikode, Thrissur and also in isolated areas in other districts.

The conspicuous fall in water level is due to the poor rainfall distribution in comparison with previous year’s rainfall.  The comparison of rainfall distribution during the period 1.10.03 to 12.11.03 with that of the previous year indicates lesser rainfall in 12 districts with  % departures varying from –1.6 in Wayanad district to     –71.2 in Kasaragod district
