Comparison of water level during November 2003 with respect to the mean November water level of the period 1993 – 2002 indicates that the water level has shown a fall in water level in the range of 0 –2 metres in most parts of the State.  Fall in water level in the range of 2 – 6 metres is also seen in the eastern parts of Palakkad district.  Rise in water level is seen in the eastern parts of Kasaragod district, western parts of Malappuram, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Alappuzha and Kottayam districts and southern parts of Thiruvananthapuram district.

The predominant fall in water level may be attributed to the deficit rainfall received during the period 1.6.2003 to 12.11.03 when compared to normal.
