     Depth to water level in Kerala State during January 2004                     [Home]

       Depth to water level in Kerala State varies widely from 0.20 to 55.68 metres below ground level during the month of January 2004 but mostly falls within the range of 0.2 – 10 mbgl as shown by 87.9 % of National Hydrograph Network Stations (NHS).  Shallow water level in the range of 0.2 – 2.0 mbgl is seen in Alappuzha district and also in the coastal tracts of Kollam, Ernakulam and Thrissur districts and also eastern parts of high ranges in Idukki district.  The areas falling in the midland region generally show water level in the range of 2 – 10 mbgl.  In Kasaragod, Wayanad, Malappuram, Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram districts deep water level in the range of 10 – 55.68 mbgl is noticed in certain pockets of areas where thick lateritic overburden is seen.
